A conical Space-Age design from the 1960s: the “Djinn” lounge chair with matching ottoman, designed in 1965 by the French designer Olivier Mourgue for the manufacturer Airborne, is considered one of the most significant seating designs of the futuristic design era.
The organically curved, low-slung form perfectly embodies the visionary spirit of the Space-Age movement. The Djinn chair dispenses with traditional legs and instead rests on an elegantly curved tubular steel structure that is fully enclosed by the upholstery. This creates the characteristic flowing silhouette, which appears both sculptural and comfortable.
The model became widely known through its appearance in the cult film 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick, in which the futuristic lounge scene features the Djinn chairs. Today, the design is regarded as a milestone of 20th-century design and a highly sought-after collector’s piece for enthusiasts of Space-Age and Mid-Century design.
The chair offered here comes together with the matching ottoman, which echoes the dynamic lines of the chair and provides optimal comfort. Together they form an impressive lounge combination with strong visual identity.
An exceptional design object with a striking presence — ideal for sophisticated living spaces, design collections, or as an iconic statement piece in modern interiors.
Condition report:
The upholstery has been renewed by a professional workshop. The original fabric remains and is in very good condition, clean, with light signs of age.
